Weekly Email (February 10, 2020)
What a week it has been, but of course I've wanted to say that every week I've been here. I have to say it's fun being a gringo here in Peru. The tallest person I've met here is about as tall as one of my sisters. Combine that with my gringo companion who is 6'4'' and 280 lb and we make an odd sight in the street. However, this just means we can be better ejemplos with all the attention we get.
This week we had interviews with President. The mission home is pretty much the only building with AC here, so it was awesome to just wait for our turn. We also had lunch there, half a pizza, and me and my companion drank about 3 litros of Inka Kola. During my interview, President wanted us to share the trailer for this next general conference, and it is a powerful video. I would ask that you share it with everyone that you can, because it causes great excitement. What do you think will be different in this General Conference? I've never been more excited to listen to the words of prophets than now.
I started reading the Bible this week, because I think it's absurd to be telling people about another book of scripture and not even be able to talk with them (even in english) about that book of scripture that they have. Yet, while reading the Bible, man I just want to read the Book of Mormon. The Old Testament can go chapters without any mention of Jesus Christ or God, but in the Book of Mormon, you cannot go even a page without a reference to Jesus Christ. Reading the Bible has certainly solidified my belief in the Book of Mormon. They work together to testify of the reality of Christ just like the Bible says in Ezekiel 37:16-17. "Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, (the Bible) and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, (the Book of Mormon) and for all the house of Israel his companions: And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand." And in the Book of Mormon, it says in Mormon 7:9, "For this (Book of Mormon) is written for the intent that ye may believe that (Bible); and if ye believe that (Bible) ye will believe this also (Book of Mormon); and if ye believe this ye will know concerning your fathers, and also the marvelous works which were wrought by the power of God among them."
Thank you for your emails, experiences, pictures, and prayers. They really mean a lot to me. I hope that you all are accepting the invitation by our prophet to read about the 1st vision of Joseph Smith to prepare for this general conference. I ask that you now make plans to bring someone to hear the words that will be "unforgettable".
All is well in the mission, I have begun my metamorphosis into a fully fledged missionary.
Sincerely yours,
The in"peru"ving missionary,
Elder Baird
